			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>Exercise is an important element to a healthy lifestyle.  Exercise has always been an important part of my life, but as my life became packed with kids, school event and now even work I find it very hard to exercise on a regular basis. The desire is still there it is just extremely difficult at this stage in my life to fit everything in.  For awhile I didn’t&#8230;now I am working hard to get back to the fitness level I once was at and let slip away a day and then a week at a time.  Along the way I have discovered some ways to stay motivated and make exercise happen more regularly.</p>
<p><strong>Here are some ways that have made it easier for me, hopefully some of these will help you as well.  </strong></p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Get a Buddy-</strong>The times when I have been the most successful, with exercise, is when I had a buddy to work out with.  It doesn’t matter if they are doing the same thing as you or doing their own thing.  Just knowing that they are counting on you to be there is enough to get you there.  It makes it more difficult to sleep in when you know your buddy is at the gym.  I have a couple of gal pals that are there EVERY morning.  The days they can&#8217;t make it are the days that I feel like not showing up my self.  Make sure you pick someone you can count on&#8230;this is the most important.  If they aren&#8217;t reliable they aren&#8217;t a motivation.</li>
<li><strong>Take before pictures-</strong>It is good to see where you are when you start, and just as motivating to see what you have accomplished.  It is very eye opening when to see yourself&#8230;really see yourself.  Until I saw my own before pictures I had an unrealistic view of what I really looked like.  Taking before pictures and then comparing them to pictures taken along the way can be very motivating and can help you know your successes and when you have to step it up a little more to see the results you want.</li>
<li><strong>Schedule your workouts-</strong>If you want to have regular work out sessions don’t just leave them to chance.  Treat your exercise sessions as an unbreakable appointment.  If you and everyone else knows that at 8 am Monday, Wednesday, and Friday you are exercising-NO exceptions-you will be successful and see great results.  Make exercise as much a part of your day as eating.</li>
<li><strong>Work out to music-</strong>I find that getting lost in my music helps my time on the elliptical or treadmill more like an escape from reality.  With music my cardio time goes fast.  Create a great playlist of your favorite up-beat tunes and crank it up.  Many fitness sites have play list suggestions.  You could also listen to books or podcasts r watch TV.</li>
<li><strong>Do activities that you enjoy-</strong>Many people absolutely hate cardio and exercise.  To make it less dreaded, find a cardio building activity  or exercise routine that you enjoy and don&#8217;t dread.  I hate running on the treadmill, so I started using the elliptical machine, which for me was at least a little more enjoyable than treadmills.  Since then I was turned on to ZUMBA! I can truly say now that I look forward to my ZUMBA time.  I have never been in such great cardiovascular condition in my life.  So try different activities until you find your perfect exercise fit.</li>
<li><strong>Take small steps-</strong>Goals are very important. It is good to know what end result you want, but it is easy to get overwhelmed with how long and what it is going to take to get there.  Set your overall goal and then set smaller, more attainable goals.  These smaller goals help you have success along the path to your ultimate goal. This makes getting the path to the top more fun and a more rewarding experience.  Treat yourself when these smaller, but just as important goals are met, just not with food!</li>
</ol>

When our bodies are in a continuous state of dehydration, minerals are depleted and negatively effect the ph balance of the blood.</p>
<p><strong>Dehydration changes our metabolic rate and hunger.</strong> Did you know that when you are dehydrated it causes you to get that hungry feeling&#8230;even if you aren’t really hungry.  What does that mean you ask?  This means that for you and millions of other people who feel continual hunger, it may be because you are not drinking enough water. If you try to satisfy this “hunger”&#8230; cough dehydration&#8230; with some type of processed food you will find yourself even more dehydrated and feeling even more hunger than before. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>We all have moments in our life when difficulties place us on a quest to look for comfort.  For many of us this journey ends in our own kitchen; we turn to food to comfort us.  Often times we don’t even know this is what we are doing, but emotional eating seems to be how most of us pack on the pounds.</p>
<p>For me, it happened when I was going through a separation from my husband.  I would find myself waking up in the middle of the night with many things on my mind. The next thing I knew is I would be standing in front of the refrigerator, not really knowing how I got there.  I was looking for something, anything to soothe my woorries.  I was an emotional eater and my waistline was proving it.</p>
<p>Emotional eating will undermine your weight loss efforts.  Emotional eating has nothing to do with being physically hungry and it almost always leads us to make the wrong food choices.  Do you think I picked an apple on my 2am fridge raids&#8230;.ummm not even close.  I would usually pick something like chips, chocolate, ice cream, doughnuts or some other high-calorie, sweet or fatty food, and it was making me fat.</p>
<p>Here is the good news, if you too are an emotional eater you can gain control again, just like I did.  Here is how I gained control over my emotional eating.</p>
<p><strong>Step 1 Realize you have a problem</strong></p>
<p>You’ve heard the saying, “Knowing is half the battle.” The first step to control emotional eating is knowing that you do it.  Emotional eating tends to be almost automatic.  How can you tell the difference between emotional eating or eating to fill a physical need?  Here are some  differences between physical hunger and emotional hunger according to the University of Texas Counseling and Mental Health Center’s web site:</p>
<ol>
<li>Emotional hunger hits you suddenly; physical hunger comes on gradually.</li>
<li>With emotional eating you are trying to fill a void not related to hunger.  With emotional eating you will crave a certain food, it might be pizza or chocolate.  When this happens only the craved food will satisfy your need.  When you are eating to satisfy physical hunger you are more open to other options.</li>
<li>Emotional eating makes you feel like you need to immediately eat the food you crave; physical eating can wait.</li>
<li>When you are eating to fill an emotional need, you will likely keep eating even after you feel full.  If you are physically hungry, you will stop eating when your stomach is satisfied.</li>
<li>When you eat for emotional reasons, you may feel guilt where physical eating leaves no guilty feelings.</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Step 2 Swap</strong></p>
<p>If you want to successfully stop stress eating  you have to swap that impulse for something else.  Put of list of alternate activities on your fridge.  If you write these activities down you won’t even have to think when you are tempted. You just pick an alternative and avoid comfort eating.  Here is a a sampling of quick fix activities to use when you are tempted to emotional eat.</p>
<ol>
<li>Make a cup of black tea.  Studies show that people who drink black tea experience a 47% drop in the hormone cortosol.  Elevated cortisol levels are triggered because of stress so it is important to keep this hormone at bay.Those who drank a placebo only saw a 27% drop.</li>
<li> Try a foot message.  Sit down, take your shoes off and roll your feet one at a time on a tennis ball.  <em>The International Journal of         Neuroscience </em>says that giving yourself a message lowers cortisol levels which keeps your stress levels down.</li>
<li>Emotional eating is often mindless eating.  This kind of eating helps you forget your worries briefly.  Try an activity that clears your mind, such as a breathing; close your eyes and focus on the blackness.  Slowly breathe in and out.  Count every breath until you reach 10.</li>

<p><strong>Step 3 Practice makes Perfect</strong></p>
<p>With practice you can end your emotional eating.   It will take time.  Make sure you are doing the activities on your eating swap list at other times besides the times you feel like eating.  Practice makes perfect and you want to make it easier to withstand the cravings when they hit.  You need to learn to soothe yourself without food before you have a very stressful day.</p>

<p><strong>4.  Use skim milk</strong></p>
<p>If you regularly consume coffee and always opt to put two liquid creamers, you are in effect, adding sixty calories to your coffee per cup.  Multiply that with the number of times that you have coffee per day.  To lessen the calories that you add on your coffee, it is recommended that you put in skim milk instead as this only contains five calories and ten calories if you put in double the amount.  While saving fifty calories per cup of coffee may not seem like a lot, you need to remember that all these add up. </p>
